The yellow brick road returns to Akron for 2017
First premiering in 2014, this charming ballet puts a brand-new spin on the age-old favorite tale. With an eye-poppingly colorful set which includes a dazzling Munchkin Land, the Witch's Castle and a sparkling Emerald City, the cast is dressed in 140 elaborately detailed costumes - and it even includes a real dog on stage! Join Dorothy on the adventure of a lifetime as she battles evil whilst trying to get home to Kansas, following a freak tornado. With beautiful dancing, comical vignettes and a scary Wicked Witch of the West, this is one ballet where you won't be clicking your heels to go home!
With design by Jack Ballance, who also designed the company's lauded Nutcracker production, ( named by citizens as Akron's top "holiday show" by the Akron Beacon Journal and has been enjoyed for the over 20 years by hundreds of local families). this full-length, two-act ballet takes Frank L. Baum's original story and applies it beautifully for the ballet medium, with a innocent, perky Dorothy, a sinuous sexy Wicked Witch and a certain three-strong motley crew of companions!
